RUDOLPH VON URBANTSCHITSCH (1879-1964)

Rudolph Von Urbantschitsch was a Viennese physician who founded a famed sanatorium for the treatment of the aristocracy.  He became a member of Freud’s Wednesday night society in 1908, and later trained as a psychoanalyst in Vienna.  A Catholic monarchist, he was criticized for simplistic presentations of psychoanalysis.  His membership in the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society was not authorized for renewal.  He emigrated to California in 1937, and considered himself a Freudian psychoanalyst. He published novels and his autobiography, “Myself Not Least: A Confessional Autobiography of a Psychoanalysis and some Explanatory History Cases.”
